Heaven and Earth (Himmel und Erde)

Unlike most other countries in Europe, we Germans like to eat our most substantial meal in the middle of the day. Most other enjoy three full meals a day, but many Germans eat their way, or nibble at least, through five meals. The early breakfast, might consist of coffee and rolls with butter and preserves and perhaps cheese.

Chocolate Nut Cake



When I cast my mind back, to the farm I grew up on in Germany, I can see many similarities with Irish life today. Bacon, ham and sausages from our own pigs and fresh eggs from our own chickens, bread, baked in a big stone oven, heated only with vines from the family vineyards, an abundance of home grown fresh vegetables and fruit carried in wicker baskets, all to supply the family.
