Eurofab food

Spent much of last weekend shooting at Eurofair with the Kent Food & Drink Festival in Canterbury.

Friday was opening day. Crowds were a little thin (as you’d expect on a working day) and the weather a little unpredictable (quite nippy!).…

To Catch A Cook: Quick Entertaining

Do you ever find yourself in a pinch to throw together quick snacks for entertaining? This is my go-to platter, everything is from Whole Foods, already made, and all I have to do is put the items in small white bowls and place on a tray. This arrangement has a little something for everyone and only takes 5 minutes to assemble- serve…

Stairway to (food) heaven

In this line of work I get to meet some great people in some fantastic locations – recently this has included the coast of West Cork, the beaches of St Vincent and a rather smart suite in a Knightsbridge hotel.

And sometimes I also work in rather more difficult surroundings – it could be hanging from a helicopter or perched between roof rafters. It all depends on the shot…

Rich & Creamy Meet Tart & Tangy: Panna Cotta with Fresh Wild Berry Sauce

An easy dessert to make that is always a crowd-pleaser is panna cotta with fresh picked wild berries - the combination of the rich, creamy, vanilla panna cotta with with tart & tangy berry sauce drizzled atop is a perfect match.

Coming home the other day as we were making our way over the hills towards Piobbico, Jason shouted - BERRIES! And pulled over right there on the side of the road. We preceded to pick as many frutti di bosco (fruits of the woods) as possible & knew… Continue

Backstage at The Berkeley

For anyone unfamiliar with The Berkeley, it is one of London’s poshest 5-star hotels.

Located in the heart of Knightsbridge, it’s been described as “the place where the world’s beautiful people become that bit more beautiful.” As well as being “beautiful”, it helps if you’re seriously well-heeled as it’s not somewhere to go and count the pennies.…

Italy set for smaller wine output, good quality seen

Italian wine quality is expected to improve as volume falls slightly this year after farmers dug up vines, encouraged by incentives from the European Union, research showed.

Italy's wine output is expected to fall 1 percent to just above 4.5 billion liters, farmers' research center ISMEA said in a statement after its joint research with wine industry body Unione Italiana Vini (UIV).

The quality…

Have I seen the light?

Regular readers will know that I’m something of a natural light evangelist when it comes to shooting food.

If we can’t use what’s available, we ain’t working. Or something like that anyway. One thing that’s an absolute no-no is the use of flash – it makes food look so unappetising.

Anyway, for this blog I decided to prove that I…

Recipes from the Garden: Sauteed Green Beans with Toasted Almonds

Green beans, runner beans, french beans or fagiolini - whatever you call them they are in-season on our farm! If you read our last post you know we are eating them damn'near daily! Here we pick them while they are still young & tender - not the huge knobby tough beans I was used to before. And don't even get me started on the difference between fresh picked beans and the soggy, salty ones I was force-fed to eat as a kid...from a can!! (No wonder so many kids grow up hating vegetables). Now… Continue

Australia to use EU wine label system

ADELAIDE, Australia, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Australia has signed an agreement with the European Union to stop labeling Australian wine with names such as burgundy,

port and claret.

In exchange, Australian wine makers will have protection for 112 of its "geographical indicators" such as Barossa and Coonawarra, the Wine and Brandy Corp., the government agency in charge of wine production, announced in a…

It’s September 2. That means autumn officially started yesterday.
